On’s Cloudmonster series is a modern collection of performance road running shoes designed to make movement fun, comfortable and easy. It began in 2022 with the release of the On Cloudmonster, which was the brand’s first take on the concept of a maximalist sole unit.

Like most of On’s running shoes, the Cloudmonster features CloudTec cushioning. Here, the hollow openings are larger than on any previous model, offering unparalleled comfort and support. This is paired with a thick slab of Helion superfoam for top-level shock absorption that protects the legs from growing fatigued over many miles.

Completing the high-tech midsole of the On Cloudmonster is a sturdy Speedboard, which works with the cushioning materials to soften the foot as it hits the floor before combining with the specially designed forefoot rocker and energy-returning foam to launch the runner forwards into the next step. Underfoot, the durable rubber outsole features large grip pads with tread patterns that deliver outstanding grip on a range of surfaces, from wet roads to rocky trails. Broad grooves between each pad then make the sole surprisingly flexible so that the foot can move in the most natural way possible.

The Cloudmonster’s upper is made from highly breathable recycled fabrics. As well as stopping the foot from overheating, it is flexible and lightweight, adding a sustainable touch to the overall design. The traditional lacing and fully-gusseted tongue hold the foot firmly in place during runs, while the padded collar prevents any slippage at the heel. 

Aesthetically, the upper has a classy, minimalist appearance, with no-sew panelling on the toe and flanks alongside elegant hints of branding, including the Cloudmonster text on the offset tongue stripe. This contrasts with the bold, eccentric look of the stacked sole unit, allowing the shoe to be worn as part of a casual outfit for a strong fashion statement.

Ultimately, though, the primary design focus of the On Cloudmonster is performance running. Its advanced blend of cutting-edge technologies provides responsive propulsion, supporting everyday exercise while also making the running experience effortless and day-to-day walking a joy.
