Hybrid training shoes
In 2026, Nike broadened the scope of its athletic offerings with a pioneering new collection in the developing product category of hybrid fitness. Launching the innovative Nike Hybrid system, the brand harnessed its most cutting-edge performance technologies to provide versatile footwear that can support a wide range of training activities.
Nike began working on the Hybrid system in January 2025, using insights from both elite and casual athletes to produce the Hybrid RN. Released in October 2026, it is specifically designed for everyday training across multiple disciplines, from functional movements to running and lifting. As such, it incorporates enhanced stability features like the X-shaped structures spanning the upper and outsole. The two are connected at the heel, where a rubber outrigger meets a strap that extends all the way to the lacing system, creating incredible lateral stability and lockdown. Its engineered mesh upper delivers cooling breathability, a ReactX midsole provides lightweight comfort and Zoom Air adds springy propulsion to the forefoot. The heel has been crafted to control the foam stack during heavy lifting, while both sticky and high-abrasion rubbers form the diamond-shaped tread for reliable multi-surface traction. For the launch campaign, Nike enlisted hybrid athletes like Fin Dearsly, who praised its ability to combine stability, speed, grip and comfort, and former Hyrox world champion Lauren Weeks.
Several months after the release of the Nike Hybrid RN, Nike brought out a complementary silhouette called the Hybrid Fly, which is designed for the unique demands of hybrid racing and competition. Fast and propulsive, it features dual Zoom Air units in the forefoot of its powerful ZoomX foam midsole, with a full-length carbon Flyplate for added energy return. Its four-zone traction outsole incorporates various tread zones alongside sticky rubber and large cutout sections that help keep weight down. The engineered mesh upper is also lightweight, with breathable zones and reinforced haptic strapping that increases lateral support and durability. Targeted padding provides comfort without adding bulk, and the race-ready lacing system combines with the sidewall wraps and notched laces to secure the foot through all kinds of dynamic movements. As with the RN, the Nike Hybrid Fly was promoted by top hybrid athletes, including those from Nike’s Elite Training Division. Dylan Scott, who wore a prototype model during his remarkable comeback victory at the 2026 HYROX World Championships, lauded the silhouette for its “snappy” carbon plate, “stable footing and grip”, stating that he had been unable to find something that offered all three elements before discovering the Hybrid Fly.
The Nike Hybrid system is a forward-thinking evolution of fitness footwear that offers hybrid athletes unparalleled versatility. Launching with two cutting-edge performance silhouettes, it heralds a bold new era for sport, showing the brand’s commitment to innovation in all areas.
