Nike Free was introduced in the early 2000s to provide runners with a supported barefoot feeling. Since then, it has evolved in various ways, and in 2025, the brand launched its latest take on the flexible technology: an accessible workout shoe called the Free 2025.

The upper of the Nike Free 2025 is made from lightweight, breathable Flyknit with a densely woven zone along the sidewalls and around both heel and toe for durability. Its eyelets are formed by a strong piece of thread secured with thick stitching for reliable lockdown, while the dynamic heel gives enough stretch to produce an adaptive fit without any slippage. A pull loop has been added here for easy on and off, and a slim cushioning pad has been placed inside the heel to maintain comfort and, along with the thin tongue, keep weight down.

The Free 2025 is founded upon a well-cushioned dual-density midsole that offers lightweight comfort and support as it slopes downwards from heel to toe. Deep grooves have been cut into its underside to produce traction while also allowing maximum flexibility for a natural walking experience. A textured effect covers much of its surface, with dedicated grip pads placed in the medial forefoot and across the heel in order to improve durability and traction in high-wear areas.

Aesthetically, the Nike Free 2025 is elegantly minimal. Small Swoosh logos grace the sidewalls, which are punctuated with the undulating pattern of the thicker Flyknit weave. This creates a dappled effect that visually extends into the textured areas of the midsole for an intriguing look. Nike Free branding adorns the lateral heel, tongue patch and medial midfoot, while a dynamic Move-to-Zero logo appears on the insole to indicate the use of recycled materials within the shoe’s design.
