When Nike SB was established in 2002, its visionary founder, Sandy Bodecker, ensured the skateboarding sub-label’s success by working with the skating community to design footwear which served them. Over two decades later, his powerful legacy was celebrated with an innovative skate shoe called the Nike SB PS8.

The SB PS8 features a lightweight Flyknit upper that is breathable and flexible, with leather overlays bringing durability to high-wear areas like the forefoot and heel. Turned-in stitching increases longevity and produces a clean finish, while heat-moulded panelling on the edges of the toe box offers further protection. Cushy padding inside the flexible collar and heel makes for a secure, comfortable fit, and the mesh tongue delivers yet more ventilation. The sturdy eyestay incorporates two lacing options: cuffed internal eyelets or punched external ones, thus allowing the wearer to protect the laces behind the eyestay if desired. Lastly, the sleek, low-profile shape and long toe increase board control, especially during flip tricks.

The foundation of the Nike SB PS8 is a flexible yet supportive cupsole filled with comfort-giving foam. Its midsole contains a responsive heel Zoom Air insert and a fork-shaped nylon Flyplate that provides impact protection and springy rebound while also preserving the integrity of the foam without reducing comfort or flexibility. It also contributes to the PS8’s broken-in feel, which appears almost immediately out of the box. The outsole is made from a hard-wearing compound known as HART (High Abrasion Rubber Tech) which is strong enough to be spread more thinly so as to reduce weight and increase flexibility without sacrificing durability. On top of this, the distinctively curved triangular lugs covering the low-to-the-ground outsole provide high-end traction alongside reliable stability and boardfeel for a top-tier skating experience.

Aesthetically, the SB PS8 is inspired by 90s cross-trainers and modern running shoes, with a sleek, sporty look, intriguing textures and refined branding that includes classy leather sidewall Swooshes and artfully embroidered logos. Its name references both Sandy Bodecker’s Instagram handle, ‘problemsolver8’, and the shoe’s intended purpose: to solve skate-specific problems relating to comfort, break-in time, durability and ventilation. Nike first revealed the prototype design in April 2024 during a Paris event showcasing Air innovations such as those created for the upcoming Olympics, with the iconic ‘Safari’ colourway released partway through the Games.
