Nike’s Total 90 football boot was first released in 2000 and soon became a mainstay of the game. In 2004, its bold third iteration set a new precedent in both style and performance, and over two decades later, Nike chose to honour this by bringing it back as a classy lifestyle sneaker.

The upper of the Nike Total 90 emulates the eccentric original, taking on its trademark asymmetric lacing and quilted leather forefoot. In 2004, these features made it a great option for footballers hoping to gain greater ball control, accuracy and power, while in 2025, they offer a comfortable fit and nostalgic style. On top of this, the reinforced heel panel protects the back of the foot, and the collar incorporates ample padding for maximum softness around the ankle.

Although the Total 90 pays homage to a Y2K football boot, it is made for daily lifestyle use and thus has a flat yet supportive foam-filled midsole. On the rubber outsole, a zigzag tread pattern is accompanied by pivot circles below the forefoot and heel for excellent grip and durability.

In 2004, the Nike Total 90 III represented a change in style that went on to define the rest of the series. Its key aesthetic update was the introduction of the bold circular 90 logo on its medial flank, which subsequently appeared on football kits and balls around the world. The American rapper then hosted another football event during Coachella 2025, with every player sporting the Total 90.

For the sneaker’s official release in 2025, Nike recruited Arsenal forward and rising star Ethan Nwaneri, who appeared in a collection of captivating images showing off the Nike Total 90’s fashion credentials. The campaign featured the classic Metallic Silver model alongside a bold black edition and the rich Bordeaux colourway, which were later joined by other glossy designs like the Dynamic Yellow and Safety Orange, as well as those with more neutral tones. In spring 2025, Nike announced an elegant collaboration with French football club Paris Saint-Germain, crafting a Total 90 with a clean white upper, striking red accents and the team’s logo subtly embroidered atop the eye-catching 90 circle.
