The ASICS Gel-Cumulus series has been providing neutral runners with reliable training shoes for many years now. Amongst this collection, 2014’s Gel-Cumulus 16 was known for its combination of sturdy support and dependable comfort, and in 2025, it became the launch model for the brand’s new partner program, The Signature Series, in which modern designers reimagine archival silhouettes.

The upper of the ASICS Gel-Cumulus 16 blends spacer mesh with minimal stitched overlays and welded panelling, leaving plenty of room for breathability and foot movement while also offering structure, durability and a secure fit. Snugness is provided by the generous padding on the collar and tongue, and heel support comes from an internal stiffener, with forefoot protection delivered by a slim toe cap.

The Gel-Cumulus 16’s sole unit is infused with softness and support at every level. Its dual-density FluidRide midsole is soft, resilient and lightweight, with shock absorbing Gel inserts in the heel and forefoot helping to make the heritage running shoe a versatile everyday option. A stabilising TPU shank bolsters the midfoot, separating the front and rear of the outsole, whose large grip pads are formed of tough, high-abrasion rubber on the heel and softer blown rubber in the forefoot for durable traction and a smooth toe-off. Flex grooves have been placed across the outsole, and a broad Guidance Line runs vertically through its centre, facilitating seamless transitions and effortless freedom of movement.

The ASICS Gel-Cumulus 16 has a minimalist outer punctuated by dynamic sidewall stripes and sleek panelling, which mostly decorates the lateral flank. Alongside this captivating asymmetry, restrained branding effects appear on the tongue and lateral heel, with the eye-catching sheen of visible gel highlighting the midsole and reflective materials bringing practical luminosity to the heel.

In June 2025, the Gel-Cumulus 16 became the first shoe in The Signature Series. Set up to amplify the stories of significant archival silhouettes through the unique perspectives of collaborative designers, it began with three graceful sneakers from Cecilie Bahnsen, who brought a touch of feminine beauty to the ASICS Gel-Cumulus 16, adding semi-translucent Nexkin fabrics, cord lacing and exquisite floral patterns to counterbalance its traditionally masculine build. Contrastive effects appear across the collection, with matte materials offsetting shinier surfaces, hard elements placed beside softer ones, and light tones played off against darker hues. Announced in a playful campaign depicting three models on a windswept beach in elegant clothing to match each shoe’s elevated look, the collaboration signified a new beginning for the Gel-Cumulus 16, with stylish general release colourways following soon after.

Founded upon principles of supportive cushioning and durability, the ASICS Gel-Cumulus 16 was originally created as a reliable high-mileage running shoe but has now become a classy sneaker with heritage performance technologies that make it a go-to for comfort and style.
