On began designing sports shoes in the early 2010s and by 2020 had expanded into a range of sports. During this time, several hybrid trainers that could be used for a variety of fitness workouts were created, but it wasn’t until 2024 that the brand launched its first fully gym-focused silhouette, the On Cloudpulse.

The Cloudpulse debuted in 2024 with a lightweight upper featuring durable synthetic reinforcements and ventilation zones that kept the wearer cool during intense workouts. Its standard lacing system combined with the semi-gusseted tongue and flexible, well-padded heel counter to secure the foot, while the high sidewalls and forefoot TPU element gave lateral stability. The sole unit incorporated firm Helion foam alongside CloudTec cushioning for supportive shock absorption, propulsive energy return and confident control, with an 8mm drop that balanced stability and responsiveness. Set into this dynamic midsole was a Speedboard that started thin and flexible in the forefoot and became thick and supportive through the midfoot before wrapping upwards at the rearfoot to form the base of the stabilising heel clip. Below this, the durable outsole offered firm grip on indoor surfaces while also providing a wide, flexible platform for the foot.

In 2026, On introduced multiple upgrades on the Cloudpulse 2, optimising it for a variety of gym workouts. Its accommodating upper allowed toes to splay, while the lateral TPU piece was enlarged to provide greater side-to-side support. More heel padding helped lock the foot in place, and extra CloudTec pods in the forefoot increased cushioning. A Focusboard was added alongside the Speedboard, covering the rear of the midsole to better secure the ankle and heel for dynamic stability. The outsole, meanwhile, was fitted with high-traction Missiongrip technology – a sticky rubber compound that provides reliable multi-directional grip across a range of surfaces.

Stable and responsive yet lightweight and flexible, the On Cloudpulse is a high-performance training shoe with a versatile design that can support all sorts of gym workouts, from HIIT classes and circuits to cross-training, light running and moderate weightlifting.
