In the early 2000s, Nike spliced together its popular Total 90 III football boot and its innovative Shox cushioning technology into one eccentric silhouette known as the Total 90 Shox Magia. Originally designed to support indoor futsal players, it returned in 2025 as a nostalgic sneaker with a unique fashion-forward aesthetic.

The upper of the Nike Total 90 Shox Magia incorporates a variety of premium materials, such as leather, nubuck and textiles. Stitched lines add structure and durability, while all but the uppermost eyelets are protected behind the eyestay. A lace loop rests in the centre of the tongue, holding it securely in place and improving overall lockdown, with perforated lateral panelling for extra support.

Two forms of cushioning combine in the sole of the Total 90 Shox Magia. The forefoot features lightweight foam for soft comfort, while the heel has six powerful Shox columns that offer resilient impact protection and a touch of bounce. Large TPU plates stabilise the chunky columns, reaching up around the back of the foot to provide solid structure and containment at the heel. A variety of grippy traction patterns cover the sports-inspired outsole, with a pivot circle on the medial forefoot and solid circular pads below each Shox pillar. Lastly, a sturdy shank bolsters the arch so that support stays consistent along the entire length of the foot.

Aesthetically, the Nike Total 90 Shox Magia brings together chic elegance and bold expression. Its distinctive quilted upper evokes the sporty look of the original Total 90 III, and the eye-catching Shox cushioning powerfully elevates the heel. Meanwhile, the branding remains stylishly minimal, with small Swooshes on the flanks and miniature logos on the tongue patch and heel. A Shox logo appears beneath the midfoot to complete the captivating retro design of this sleek, football-inspired sneaker.

Capitalising on the upcoming World Cup, Nike relaunched the Total 90 Shox Magia in autumn 2025 via a partnership with contemporary women’s fashion boutique Maha Amsterdam. Teased by celebrity stylist and designer Veneda Carter at Paris Fashion Week, the collaboration delivered a duo of colourways blending “nostalgia and future, strength and softness, the feminine and the masculine” while celebrating the stories of the label’s co-founders, former dancer Saskia van Hofwegen and football enthusiast Dian Iskander. The campaign accompanying its launch comprised images of models emulating memorable footballing moments such as Maradona’s infamous Hand of God and René Higuita’s audacious scorpion kick. General releases followed shortly before the 2026 World Cup alongside a collaboration with Tokyo-based sneaker and lifestyle store Forget Me Nots featuring charismatic colour gradients.
