At over four decades old, the Pegasus is one of Nike’s most iconic franchises. So, when the brand restructured its suite of road running shoes in 2024, the ‘workhorse with wings’ was chosen as one of its key silhouettes, offering responsive cushioning for everyday training. In 2026, this innovative line-up took a springy step forwards with the release of the Pegasus Plus 2.

The streamlined upper of the Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is made from a lightweight, breathable engineered mesh, with slim, no-sew panelling creating durable, structured zones throughout. Its updated MR-10 2.0 last has a more natural, accommodating and comfortable forefoot shape, and the midfoot containment band holds the foot firmly in place. The thin, semi-gusseted tongue reduces weight, while its central loop combines with the hybrid eyelets and notched laces to deliver excellent security for distraction-free running. Reflective accents help make the wearer visible in dark conditions, and the sturdy, well-padded heel counter gives solid rearfoot support.

A plush, agile sole unit featuring ultra-lightweight, highly-responsive ZoomX foam from heel to toe supports the Pegasus Plus 2, giving 18% more energy return than its predecessor. This is further boosted by the carefully-tuned Zoom Air unit at the forefoot, whose curved and exposed design allows more direct interaction with the foot for a propulsive feeling at toe-off. Its tall stack height and 10mm heel-to-toe drop offer powerful shock-absorption alongside a well-cushioned underfoot sensation, while the enhanced, segmented outsole incorporates diagonal and Waffle-style tread patterns with sharp edges and multiple grooves for outstanding traction, flexibility and road feel. It also has a slightly curved rocker shape at both heel and toe to make transitions that bit smoother.

Aesthetically, the Pegasus Plus 2 is sleek and dynamic, with classic sidewall Swooshes and bold lettering on the tongue, heel and insole. Its panelling adds intriguing shapes and textures to the outer, while the midsole’s visible Zoom Air unit and curved design lines evoke an exhilarating feeling of speed. During its development, the silhouette was tested by elite Nike athletes from a range of disciplines, including young Australian middle-distance runner Cameron Myers. On its autumn 2026 release, he praised its locked-in feel, smoothly flowing performance and impressive speed, stating that these elements all combine to provide an enjoyable running experience.
