Kobe 11 basketball shoes

Kobe Bryant’s Nike signature line was intertwined with his NBA career from its 2006 introduction to his 2016 retirement. For his final season, Kobe and Nike took all their learnings from this decade-long partnership and created the refined Kobe 11. Ten years later, it returned as an even more technologically advanced Protro edition.

The upper of the Nike Kobe 11 features breathable Flyknit with integrated TPU yarns that are tough yet flexible, offering lightweight durability, stabilising containment and swift manoeuvrability. Dynamic Flywire lacing provides a sock-like fit for even greater lockdown, while the large, padded tongue and cushy, low-cut collar deliver comfort and mobility. An internal heel counter brings stability to the rearfoot, with a pull tab for convenient on and off.

The Kobe 11 Protro is founded upon a drop-in ReactX foam midsole that is high in energy return but also soft and comfortable. A bottom-loaded Zoom Air unit increases responsiveness and shock-absorption at the heel, while the thin forefoot cushioning ensures solid court feel. Raised sidewalls on the midsole and outsole work with the lateral forefoot outrigger to stabilise the foot, and traction comes from rows of tightly packed, tooth-like rubber nubs covering the entire outsole. Lastly, the lack of a shank plate allows maximum flexibility for nimble, unrestricted movement.

Sleek, low-profile and minimalist, the Nike Kobe 11 is an elegantly stylish basketball shoe with subtle storytelling. Kobe’s ‘Sheath’ logo appears boldly on the tongue, classic Swooshes adorn the sidewalls and four embroidered bands decorate the heel in reference to the four feet of stitching thread required to fix his torn Achilles. Some designs incorporate other details, such as an Achilles emblem or key career milestones, while the distinctive ‘Kobe Code’ etched into the midsole translates to “realign, reaffirm, reestablish” as an homage to his determination to return after a potentially career-ending injury.

Bryant debuted the Kobe 11 shortly after announcing his retirement in late 2015, with the general release coming in early 2016. He continued to produce moments of brilliance, culminating in a memorable 60-point performance against the Utah Jazz during his final game. Wearing the sophisticated ‘Fade to Black’ colourway, Kobe outscored the entire opposing team in the fourth quarter, giving him and his last numbered signature shoe the greatest possible send-off.

A decade after this remarkable match, Nike launched the Kobe 11 Protro. Alongside the Elite ‘Fade to Black’, the brand introduced the accessible EM ‘Mamba Out’ edition, whose breathable, engineered mesh upper is covered in stunning golden graphics commemorating the greatest achievements of Kobe’s iconic career, including his 81-point performance against the Toronto Raptors and his five championship titles.

By focusing on tried-and-tested Kobe line features such as an agile low-cut build, responsive cushioning, outstanding traction and powerful storytelling, the Nike Kobe 11 offers the perfect concluding chapter to one of the most outstanding careers in NBA history.
