KD basketball shoes
Kevin Durant has been a Nike athlete for his entire career, with his first signature basketball shoe launched in 2009. Founded upon technological innovation and attention-grabbing style, every silhouette in the long-running series brings new features that drive on-court performance to greater heights. This ethos is evident on its 2026 update, the striking KD 19.
The upper of the Nike KD 19 incorporates an engineered synthetic shell that wraps over the entire foot, providing solid containment and durability. Created using a cutting-edge double-injection moulding process, it features a specially-designed TPU element that cuts along the flanks and around the heel to enhance lockdown. It also encompasses the midsole to ensure a solid connection to the footbed, while the fully gusseted tongue, thick heel counter and internal lacing structure further improve security. Plush padding on the breathable textile tongue provides comfort, and the whole structure remains soft and malleable, thus facilitating uninhibited movement.
An advanced cushioning setup fills the KD 19’s sole, offering a powerful blend of impact protection, comfort and energy return. It begins with plush, springy Cushlon 3.0 foam, which extends along the entire foot beneath a highly-responsive, full-length Zoom Air Strobel. This delivers incredible propulsion, while the 3D moulded sockliner gently cradles the foot for a comfortable, locked-in feeling underfoot. Stability comes from the lightweight TPU midfoot shank alongside the sturdy upper as it wraps around the midsole, allowing fast cuts and pivots. Lastly, the thick, hard-wearing rubber outsole achieves strong multidirectional traction through a collection of dynamic angular tread lines.
The Nike KD 19 is an aesthetically striking basketball shoe with subtle storytelling details worked into its functional elements. Its distinctive upper celebrates the bold, luxurious style of American slab car culture, which is popular in the home of Durant’s new team, the Houston Rockets, with a dagger-inspired protrusion on the sidewalls that references his Slim Reaper nickname. His jersey numbers, 7 and 35, are cleverly integrated into the outsole, and his stylish logo appears on the tongue, while a mini Swoosh has been etched into the lateral forefoot and the number 7 embossed onto the heel.
Durant debuted his 19th signature shoe in a game against the Lakers on March 16th, 2026, showing off its speed and versatility, which is said to help him “respond instantly” during everything from fast pivots to fadeaways and pull-ups. The colourway he chose was a vibrant all-over red with a high-gloss finish that mimics the eye-catching, candy-like colours seen on slab cars. This theme continued on the launch editions released in June, including the radiant ‘Orange Crush’, the bright pink ‘Bubble Gum Bounce’ and the golden-yellow ‘Butter Candy’.
With its unique, head-turning upper and innovative, triple-layered sole unit, the Nike KD 19 offers energy-returning power, shock-absorbing comfort and confidence-boosting containment for outstanding all-round performance.
