Ja 4 basketball shoes
Ja Morant’s signature series is built upon edgy aesthetics and high-performance innovations designed to support his fast, athletic play style. This ethos continued when Nike released the Ja 4 in 2026 as its updated construction took the franchise in a bold new direction.
The Nike Ja 4 has a dual-layered upper with a lightweight, moulded shell made of compressed foam beneath a synthetic suede overlay featuring durable, diamond-patterned texturing. Containing the midfoot is the lightweight, rigid TPU JA-frame, which creates enough structure to offer lateral stability while combining with the traditional lacing system and semi-gusseted tongue to lock the foot in place. Concealed eyelets increase longevity, with the uppermost ones reinforced to prevent tearing. Flow foam ridges then emerge along the flanks and around the heel to bolster durability, improve lateral support and protect the foot from impacts. Lastly, the mesh tongue adds a touch of ventilation, and soft padding brings comfort to the heel, collar and instep.
A full-length Cushlon 3.0 midsole supports the Ja 4, offering lightweight shock absorption and responsiveness for an energetic yet well-cushioned underfoot experience. The premium SPRPWR sockliner is made of high-rebound, supercritical foam for extra comfort and bounce, while the innovative Ja-Frame wraps around the sole to deliver stability during dynamic movement. A modest lateral outrigger makes the shoe even more stable, and the medial forefoot enhances mobility through its rounded shape and outsole coverage. Precise, geometric lines and jagged, triangular lugs cover the rubber outsole, providing multidirectional grip as its streamlined, low-profile design ensures reliable court feel and the gentle curvature at the toe and heel makes for smooth, well-balanced transitions.
Like its predecessors, the Nike Ja 4 has a striking aesthetic. Punctuated by sharp, angular lines, its upper has a rebellious edge, while Morant’s forename appears subtly through the combination of reversed, vertical Swooshes and the shape of the Ja-frame. Storytelling details are apparent throughout, from Morant’s inspirational words and personal logo to his Memphis Grizzlies jersey number, which is repeated on the outsole in a nod to his elite grassroots basketball program: Twelve Time.
In line with his desire to help up-and-coming basketball players, Morant debuted the Ja 4 at Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League in July 2026. Shortly after the Las Vegas event, he took to social media to officially announce the first five colourways. This initial run began in mid-August with the launch of the ‘Nightmare’ edition, whose eye-catching colour scheme and vivid iridescent effects are the perfect representation of Morant’s powerful on-court influence and scoring threat.
Incorporating innovative features and powerful aesthetics, the Nike Ja 4 is a stunning basketball shoe designed to accentuate explosive plays, lateral cuts and quick, confident movement for elite-level performance across the court.
