HyperSet volleyball shoes

Nike’s first volleyball shoes were released back in the 1970s, and the brand still continues to produce top-level footwear for the sport to this day. As part of its modern collection, Nike launched the HyperSet series in the early 2020s to serve powerful volleyball players with elite-level stability and support.

The basketball-inspired Nike React HyperSet debuted in 2021 with a lightweight mesh upper that is breathable and conforms to the foot. It features internal padding for comfort around the heel and ankles, and the forefoot is protected by synthetic leather side panelling as the centre remains flexible for smooth transitions. A pull loop on the heel makes for easy entry, with another on the long tongue, which incorporates a sleeve-like, snug-fitting design. Lockdown is enhanced by tough Flywire lacing and a Velcro strap that swoops from the lateral midfoot to the medial heel. Its chunky sole is based on the 2017 Hyperdunk basketball shoe and incorporates soft, responsive React foam within a firm Phylon carrier for a compelling blend of durability, stability, propulsive bounce and impact protection. High sidewalls work with the outrigger to stabilise the foot during lateral movements, while the tread pattern of the rubber outsole features a series of concentric rings that offer solid grip across indoor surfaces, thus allowing players to perform dynamic movements with confidence, speed and power.

In summer 2024, Nike released the HyperSet 2 with a collection of radical updates. It has a durable, supportive mixed-material upper with breathable mesh, a medial drag guard and synthetic leather around the heel. A sturdy TPU panel with a charismatic reverse Swoosh spans the lateral ankle, connecting to the uppermost eyelet and the midsole to create strong lateral stability and prevent ankle rolling. It also works with the mid-cut collar, stiff, well-padded heel and lacing structure to effectively contain the foot. Underfoot, the Phylon foam midsole is augmented with a thick heel Zoom Air unit and a thinner one in the forefoot, producing strong arch support alongside high-levels of energy return for fast, reactive movements, springy jumps and cushioned landings. A top-loaded plastic shank and rubber lateral outrigger ensure stability without sacrificing comfort, while the soft yet hard-wearing rubber outsole has wavy grip lines running from heel to toe and cutout sections through the centre for lightweight traction across various indoor surfaces.

The Nike HyperSet has been worn by various professional volleyball players, with some sporting the vibrant Electric Pack colourway at the Paris Olympics. In 2025, Nike Athlete and veteran opposite hitter donned an elegant white and pink edition of the HyperSet 2 SE while playing for Austin during the LOVB Finals. Her team’s impressive performances saw them overturn two-set deficits in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals before going on to sweep LOVB Omaha to win the tournament in a powerful display of the HyperSet’s performance capabilities.

Stable, supportive, speedy and springy, the Nike HyperSet is a stylish volleyball shoe designed for players looking to optimise their game.
