Nike launched the ‘Greater Than’ basketball shoe range in 2021 with various models designed to accentuate specific attributes. One was engineered for running and another jumping, while the third helped players rapidly create and find space on the court. In 2024, the brand overhauled this last high-performance series with the release of the G.T. Cut 3.

Lightweight textiles have been used across the upper of the Nike G.T. Cut 3, from the soft microfibre material of the toe and tongue to the durable synthetics on the flanks. Perforations are scattered across all of these elements, while sturdy rubberised side panels support the forefoot, offering firm lateral stability. The heel counter balances containment and flexibility, with internal cushioning around the collar for maximum comfort. Flywire lacing creates a solid structure through the forefoot that contributes to the secure lockdown provided by the reinforced lacing system and the fully integrated tongue. Here, strategically placed padding prevents lace pressure without adding too much weight, and a finger loop makes for easy on and off.

The G.T. Cut 3’s groundbreaking sole unit was the first in Nike’s basketball range to incorporate a full-length ZoomX foam midsole. Carefully tuned for the sport, its lightweight, low-profile design maximises speed and court feel, its incredible responsiveness delivers powerful propulsion and its cushiness brings shock absorption. A stiff foam carrier stabilises the foam during quick cuts and sudden stops, while the bottom-loaded midfoot shank extends into the forefoot to add extra snap at toe off. Further comfort comes from the nicely padded insole, which can be removed for those requiring orthotics. Lastly, the modified herringbone pods across the forefoot and heel of the outsole are made from hard-wearing rubber that produces reliable traction and longevity on indoor hardwood courts.

Nike unveiled the G.T. Cut 3 in November 2023 with the help of multiple WNBA champion Jewell Loyd. She described how the cutting-edge design elevates her game by allowing her “to stop in an instant” and give “that quick first step… to get to spots quicker than the defence”. As well as emphasising its performance build, she also showcased the striking style of its launch colourway, which combines an elegant Summit White upper with vibrant Picante Red accents for a standout look.

The Nike G.T. Cut 3 was officially released in January 2024 alongside the more accessible Academy version and kids editions featuring Cushlon foam midsoles to support developing feet. One year later, the brand launched an upgraded silhouette called the G.T. Cut 3 Turbo. Its sturdy upper incorporates moulded panelling for increased abrasion resistance and firmer containment alongside a tougher lacing system. Comfort is improved via a cushy ZoomX insole and propulsion enhanced by the extra-springy carbon-infused Turbo Plate shank.
