ACG LDV sneakers
In 1978, Nike donated pairs of its LDV (Long-Distance Vector) running shoe to a team of Americans hoping to ascend K2. Its lightweight, flexible and breathable design offered nimble support across the rocky terrain of the 130-mile approach, allowing them to conserve energy for the climb ahead. After achieving their goal, they returned home with some advice for Nike: improve the shoe’s durability and traction while maintaining its other attributes and it will make an elite trekking shoe. In response, the brand embarked on a pioneering journey to create lightweight, outdoor-ready footwear, culminating in the launch of the ACG (All Conditions Gear) range. Decades later, this remarkable legacy was honoured with a modern reinterpretation called the Nike ACG LDV.
The ACG LDV features a supple, lightweight nylon mesh upper that offers fantastic breathability and flexible comfort. Synthetic and real leather overlays enhance durability, while the slim nylon tongue feels soft against the instep and the plush collar increases comfort around the ankle and heel. There are also two distinct lacing options: more casual-fitting punched eyelets and looped cords that produce firmer lockdown.
The most significant upgrade on the Nike ACG LDV is the addition of a full-length ReactX foam midsole. Plush, stable and high in energy return, it provides enhanced cushioning while maintaining the silhouette’s retro style. Its generous heel stack favours rearfoot strikers and reduces strain on the Achilles, and the rubber outsole incorporates a modernised Waffle tread with deep, angular lugs for dependable traction over various types of outdoor terrain. This extends over the forefoot and heel to ensure grip throughout the entire step, with small cutouts and large grooves for reduced weight and increased flexibility.
The Nike ACG LDV delivers a vintage aesthetic that honours the original silhouette through classic branding and subtle storytelling details. Curved Swoosh logos swoop along the flanks, with a throwback tongue patch and embroidered Nike lettering at the heel evoking a nostalgic charm. The triangular ACG logo on the lateral ankle signifies its modern, trail-ready design, while embossed coordinates on the outsole mark the location of K2 in a nod to its past. Lastly, the insole is decorated with a cartoon-like graphic depicting a team of hikers in the mountains with the LDV on their feet.
To boost the launch of the ACG LDV in April 2026, Nike revealed the story of the original LDV’s part in that historic K2 ascent through an in-depth short film made with men’s clothing store Huckberry. Centred around the American lifestyle brand’s core concept of ‘everyday adventure’, it investigated the history of ACG, delivering a powerful showcase that helped connect the silhouette’s stunning heritage with Nike’s modern rendition for both sneaker fans and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Nike ACG LDV is a versatile off-road hiking shoe that delivers contemporary comfort and support while celebrating the incredible story of the iconic 1970s runner.
