Jordan 4 Retro
This Jordan 4 Retro sneaker has been nicknamed Military Black, indicating its connection to a fan-favourite release from the late-80s. A similar colourway, this new version features a refined look that is reminiscent of its counterpart, but powerful black accents set it apart. Some of these appear on the herringbone outsole, which has a Neutral Grey heel, white through the front half and two black sections, one below the forefoot, the other in the centre. Right in the middle of this last piece is a white Jumpman, and a Neutral Grey toe roll embossed with lines of stars completes the shoe’s grippy foundation.
Lending comfort alongside this traction is a cushioned white midsole filled with fluffy Nike Air. This is visible through a window in the heel, above which is a black mudguard that offers protection to the smooth white leather of the upper. Neutral Grey suede encompasses the toe and extends back to the midfoot, where the white midsole curves upwards to divide the black mudguard on the lateral side. White gridded sections sit over black material in the quarter and over the top of the foot just behind the toe, while black TPU lace cages at the bottom and top of the white eyestay hold the laces in place. The uppermost cages connect to pieces of Neutral Grey plastic which in turn emerge from the leather panel on the flanks, giving the shoe tremendous structural support.
Atop the foot is a padded white tongue with a square patch sewn into it. This feature is also white so that the black Jumpman silhouetted against it appears to jump off its surface. At the back of the shoe, the leather panels reaching around from the flanks curve down to allow space for a bold black tab to cover most of the heel. Its top part resembles the TPU lace cages, but with embossed squares instead of holes, and there is another white Jumpman in its centre. The same aesthetic has been created on the insole, whose black surface displays Jordan Brand’s famous logo in white once more, thus rounding off the sneaker with a compelling tonal contrast.
