Air Max Terrascape 90
After more than 30 years, the iconic Air Max 90 has been reworked into a variety of distinctive new models. One of these is the Nike Air Max Terrascape 90 – a sustainable sneaker with a more environmentally friendly build that fits in with the brand’s Move to Zero project.
Recycled materials feature throughout the Air Max Terrascape 90, both changing the look and the feel of the original. The sole unit is formed from spongy Crater Foam, which delivers soft cushioning made from 7.2% recycled rubber. Below this is a speckled Nike Grind outsole that also incorporates reused materials without compromising on durability or grip. Visually, it gives the Terrascape 90 an eye-catching aesthetic as its speckled, semi-translucent surface reveals the foam inside the midsole.
On the upper, a mix of materials including mesh, rubber and other textiles produces striking textural variation. The stylish layering of the original design has been intensified, with extra panels stacked atop one another for more depth. As part of this, large swooshes appear atop the other overlays on each flank, and at the heel, they pass through a Crater Foam tab, forming a useful pull loop round the back of the foot.
The Nike Air Max Terrascape 90 also comes with different branding, in particular the offbeat Terrascape text adorning the insole as well as the broad pull tab on the tongue. A pinwheel of Nike swooshes, which is the telltale sign of all Move to Zero models, has been printed beside this lettering on the insole, while a more traditional logo is embossed on the heel.
In total, the Air Max Terrascape 90 is made from at least 20% recycled material by weight, but on parts of the shoe, such as the vamp and collar, this increases to 75%, while the laces are made entirely from recycled polyester. As a result, this modern silhouette blends comfort, style and sustainability into one highly desirable sneaker.
