Air Jordan 4 RM
Tinker Hatfield’s 1989 masterpiece, the Air Jordan 4, has long been considered one of his best. Since then, most retro versions have stayed true to the original design without introducing any significant changes. That is until 2024, when Nike released the stylish Jordan 4 RM.
Made to celebrate the model’s 35th anniversary, the Air Jordan 4 RM was the first iteration to feature a low-profile build. Its most defining feature is the flexible TPU overlay that replaces the triangular wings, fan-shaped lace cages and exaggerated heel tab of the original by covering the sidewalls and looping around the heel. On top of this, it forms some of the shoe’s eyelets, and on its heel is a Nike Air logo beside a mini debossed Jumpman.
The Jordan 4 RM is made from various premium materials that deliver the perfect blend of durability, breathability and comfort. A mix of leather and suede forms the upper, and a light mesh has been used on the tongue and eyestay. Plush padding softens the collar and the top of the tongue, which displays a Jordan Flight patch. Underfoot, the sole unit is the same as it was on Tinker’s original, the tread incorporating omnidirectional herringbone grip patterns and a smooth, Nike-branded piece below the midfoot. Meanwhile, the midsole appears in two layers of polyurethane with a visible Air unit in the heel, and the forefoot mudguard looks just like the one on the traditional AJ4.
Having been teased in spring 2024, the first AJ4 RM models were launched in the summer of that year – two collaborative colourways designed with pro BMX rider Nigel Sylvester. Alongside this, a series of general release editions were announced, including well-known Jordan colourways. With its low-top construction, uniquely styled overlay and plush materials, the Air Jordan 4 RM adds a whole new dimension to the classic look of this basketball icon.
