Jordan 3 Retro
"Patchwork"
DO1830-200
This earthy Jordan 3 Retro is made up of various textile panels, each in a different shade or pattern, earning it the charming nickname Patchwork. Its outsole begins the look by combining three different colours across its grippy surface. Black covers most of the outer part, as well as a band below the middle of the foot, while a radiant orange coats the cone-shaped section under the forefoot and the Jordan lettering beneath the heel. A cream-coloured section sits behind this text, amplifying its bright colouration even more, before extending into the medial edge to complete the tonal makeup of the outsole. The polyurethane midsole blends just two tones as the toe and the upper layer of the heel are both black, and the rest of the supportive feature is off-white. Alongside this two-tone look, a visible Air window in the heel shows off the comfortable cushioning held within, its centre employing a hint of red that effectively draws attention to this intriguing element.
Set upon this solid foundation is a patchwork upper in varying tones of green and brown, which evokes pleasant feelings of the countryside. On the right shoe, layers of suede and textile combine to create mudguard panels just above the midsole, with a beige overlay on the heel, a woodland-patterned one on the lateral midfoot, a light brown piece on the medial midfoot and a darker shade of brown filling out a panel that wraps around the forefoot. An olive green overlay caps the toe and a more khaki shade of green can be found further back, just below the tongue, which displays two contrasting brown hues and a Jumpman embroidered in a mocha tone.
Behind this, two overlays reach up from the mudguard to form the lower eyelets, the lateral one in beige, the medial one applied with a camo graphic. This pattern is repeated on the lateral midfoot, which is accompanied by a light blue piece covered in brown stripes on the upper eyestay, with TPU semi-circles rising out of it to provide more eyelets for the black laces to thread through. A similar blue section highlights the medial midfoot, while its eyestay backing mixes two shades of tan. Khaki green then fills in the rear overlay on both sides, and the collar features a dapper brown fabric which switches from dark on the lateral edge to light on the medial one. A charcoal grey heel panel with an embroidered Jumpman in its centre then rounds out the back of the foot.
On the left shoe, the arrangement of the various panels is the same, but their design is different on everything except for the heel panel. The forefoot is fronted by a brown suede overlay with a pale green lateral edge and a light brown textile panel behind it. On the lateral flank, the mudguard switches to the blue, stripy graphic found on the other shoe, which then reappears on the medial midfoot as well. The medial mudguard comes in a camo design, and the heel overlay is made of khaki green suede. Finishing off the forefoot is a mahogany textile which extends back as far as the light brown tongue. The top of the tongue then returns to the darker shade of brown, and a beige Jumpman has been woven into its centre.
Just like on the right foot, two overlays wrap up from the midsole to provide the lower eyelets, which are formed from small ringlets. The lateral one is green and the medial one exhibits a camo pattern in various shades of beige. Another camo design graces the upper eyestay on the lateral side, here in greener hues, while the medial part is all-green. Behind this, the lateral side of the rear panel is a rich mahogany tone, and the medial flank brings together a more traditional camo presentation with light brown. The collar is also divided into two designs: camo on the medial half and brown on the lateral one.
Internally, both shoes are almost identical as the lining is covered in a glossy brown material and the insole is black with a striking orange Jumpman silhouette printed onto it. The only point of difference comes on the back of the tongue as, although a soft orange padding blankets both, a distinct label has been sewn onto each one. Taking patterns from the outer, the label on the left foot features the striped blue graphic, while the one on the right is khaki green. Finally, rounding off this captivating Air Jordan 3 is a set of removable patches, such as a Nike Air logo, that can be added to the heel, thus allowing the wearer to personalise their own pair.
