Jordan 11 Retro Low

This Jordan 11 Retro Low takes its inspirations from two classic sneakers – the AJ11 Cool Grey and the AJ3 Cement Grey, for which it is named. As such, it brings together a set of satisfying neutral tones with the unconventional mix of materials the original 11 introduced to the signature sneaker line. Its partially see-through outsole is infused with a pale blue tone that makes it possible to view the carbon fibre spring plate placed between it and the midsole. The grid-like pattern on this supportive feature comes in alternating blocks of black and University Blue with a white Jumpman in the centre, for a distinctive look. Meanwhile, dark grey pods in the outsole’s forefoot and heel deliver additional grip through their use of a herringbone tread pattern.

While the outsole provides high levels of traction underfoot, the textured white surface of the Phylon foam midsole hides a feature that delivers plush padding – encapsulated Air. This bouncy cushioning runs the length of the sneaker for comprehensive comfort. The next layer up on this stylish shoe is its distinctive patent leather mudguard, here in Cement Grey. This large panel encircles the entire design, its wavy top edge giving way to a white ballistic mesh through the quarter and a strip of smooth white leather around the heel. Five bands of white fabric span the distance between the seams at the bottom edge of the ballistic mesh and the sides of the tongue. Here, they loop back on themselves to form eyelets for the white rope-like laces to be threaded through.

The topside of the tongue is covered in the same tight white mesh as the quarter panel, before its underside changes to Cement Grey across its softly padded surface. This tone then reaches down the shoe’s inner walls until it reaches the insole, which exhibits a surprising flash of University Blue to forge a powerful contrast against the gentler tones around it, especially since it has a white Jumpman printed upon it.

Returning to the outer, the topline of the collar spills over to form a small heel panel embroidered with the number 23 in white. This is a nod to Jordan’s jersey, and just below it, the brand is referenced once more through a mini University Blue Jumpman that has been woven into the white leather. More branding can be found on the back of the tongue, where there is an Air Jordan patch, and on the strip of Cement Grey material over the middle of the tongue. Written across it in dynamic white lettering that can only be read properly if turned on its side are the words “Jumpman” and “Jordan”, while a concluding University Blue Jumpman logo enlivens its centre.
