WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu released her first Nike signature basketball shoe in 2023. With a supportive low-profile build, it became highly popular, and in 2024, the New York Liberty point guard launched its follow-up, the Sabrina 2.

The Nike Sabrina 2 has used athlete insight to drive its performance even further than before, with a revamped sole unit featuring dual-density foam. It has a firm Cushlon casing for stability and a softer, more responsive core of cutting-edge Cushlon 3.0 foam for comfort. Retaining the Zoom Air unit and midfoot shank from the original, it ensures excellent bounce and impact protection as well. An updated multidirectional herringbone outsole with a swoosh through the centre delivers superior grip and mobility, while a lateral outrigger extends the shoe’s base to offer a stable platform underfoot.

The upper incorporates durable textiles that feel immediately broken-in, with mesh elements for breathability and translucent overlays highlighting an upgraded midfoot band system. This includes two straps reinforced by stitched lockdown cables, ensuring reliable containment and a secure step. An internal heel counter further enhances this effect, and strategically placed padding delivers comfort to all parts of the foot. Remarkably, the Sabrina 2 achieves these enhancements while being 28 grams lighter than its predecessor, offering greater speed without compromising on performance.

Visually, the Nike Sabrina 2 celebrates Ionescu’s career journey with meaningful design details. S-shaped elements appear throughout, from the edge of the outsole to the lateral swoosh and the overall S-frame of the upper. Embroidered accents reference her initials and jersey number, and a lowercase “i” has been stippled onto the heel. The slanted medial swoosh is surrounded by intricate stitching that symbolises a shattered glass ceiling – something she had to do to achieve success. The athlete’s “S” logo adorns the tongue and insole, while her signature is embossed onto the lateral midsole.

Many colourways have been released since the shoe’s June 2024 debut, with several honouring her story. For example, the Court Vision reflects her skill in reading plays and leading her team to victory, while the pink and grey Lily model is a tribute to her mother. Meanwhile, the vibrant green Oregon colourway references the impact she had on the university’s basketball team, and the reflective swoosh on the Mirrored design allows young players to see themselves as successful athletes of the future.
