Adizero Adios OG

In the mid-2000s, adidas set about revolutionising athletic footwear by creating a running silhouette that harmonised the connection between runner and shoe. The result was the Adizero Adios – a groundbreaking design that immediately made its mark, helping legendary distance runner Haile Gebrselassie set a new world record at the 2008 Berlin Marathon. This set the standard for the Adizero line’s so-called ‘pursuit of fast’, and two decades later, the brand recognised the shoe’s pioneering achievements, reintroducing it as the Adizero Adios OG.

The upper of the adidas Adizero Adios OG has a flexible mesh underlay with minimal synthetic overlays on the toe, eyestay and heel. This makes it highly breathable but also incredibly lightweight and comfortable around the foot, especially when combined with the soft textile inner lining. The gently padded tongue is also made from mesh for comprehensive ventilation, and a small heel tab supports the back of the foot. The entire shoe is extremely flexible, with a fully collapsible design that is great for those who want to travel light.

The Adizero Adios OG features a performance sole unit that is faithful to the 2008 design, complete with the brand’s then-cutting-edge adiPRENE foam below the heel and forefoot. This elastic cushioning material provides outstanding shock absorption and energy return, protecting the foot from running-related impacts while also giving a propulsive feeling. A different density foam covers the rest of the foot, ensuring that the wearer receives a fantastic blend of comfort, support and responsiveness. Below this, the shoe’s rubber outsole incorporates a tyre-like tread pattern of circular nodes and linear bars that deliver excellent traction, with hard-wearing, long-lasting Adiwear rubber bringing extra durability to high-stress areas like the edges of the heel and the medial forefoot.

Aesthetically, the adidas Adizero Adios OG stays true to the one Gebrselassie wore during the Berlin Marathon, with stylish flowing design lines found across the shoe, from the arcing overlays to the contours of the midsole and the flex grooves of the outsole. Adizero text accents the tongue, an adidas mountain logo has been attached to the heel and classic 3-Stripes logos adorn each flank in glossy synthetic material that evokes streamlined speed.

When the Adizero Adios OG was relaunched in 2024, adidas crafted several memorable colourways with bright throwback colours that echo the Y2K roots of the original Adios. In 2025, the selection expanded into the world of luxury fashion via the silhouette’s first collaboration courtesy of elegant clothing label Sporty & Rich. The New York-based brand designed two eye-catching colourways with shiny metallic tones and flashy 3-Stripes logos for a standout look.

The adidas Adizero Adios OG honours the iconic running shoe that helped establish Adizero as one of the greatest collections of athletic footwear in the world. Its old-school sporty aesthetic gives it timeless heritage style, while its original performance technologies deliver high levels of comfort and support for all-day wearability.
