Air Force 1 Sculpt

The Nike Air Force 1 Sculpt is a women’s sneaker in the High style of the original AF1 but with a few notable alterations. It features a concentric circle outsole tread and toe box perforations alongside a number of unique design details. One of these is the midsole seam, whose lack of stitches brings it a clean look. In contrast, there are several intriguing elements of stitching on the upper, such as the extra rectangle of thread woven into the eyestay just below the lace dubrae. On shoes such as the Gym Red colourway, with its vibrant red Nike logos, this dubrae contains a simple swoosh. Meanwhile, editions like the blue-leather-clad Ocean Cube have alternate branding – here, the text “From 1982” is etched into the metal. The forefoot mudguard also contains a double line of wide-set stitching with a closed end that stops just short of the eyestay and a slight indentation from the panel’s edge.

On the Air Force 1 Sculpt, the midfoot panel is positioned at the same level as the quarter segment, with hidden stitching joining the two to form a thin seam that makes for a more subtle transition between them. The recessed swoosh cuts through both sections, its colouration normally different to that of the rest of the upper, except on versions like the Sail Sculpt, which exhibits this off-white tone across almost the whole shoe. The swooshes stretch back along the flanks before finishing at the heel patch. This element has a sculpted, curved edge with a further dual stitched line and is made of a luxurious material like suede or tumbled leather, depending on the specific design. Its sides are not attached to the upper, leaving a space where the ankle strap would normally go – the AF1 Sculpt comes without one so that it can be put on and taken off more easily. A final bit of sculpting occurs around the collar, where the ankle is slightly reduced as it slopes down towards the heel.

Another aspect of the Nike Air Force 1 Sculpt is its limited branding. Neither the tongue tab, which is connected to the tongue via two rows of stitches, nor the heel panel contain any branding at all – an unexpected sight in a modern Nike sneaker. However, some editions do include certain detailing on these parts, for example the We’ll Take It From Here colourway, which has dynamic frequency lines sewn into the heel patch. The insole is also plain, with no sign of branding text, though Air lettering appears on the midsole, and the outsole branding remains. These two components make up the familiar sole unit of the Air Force 1 Sculpt, offering the opportunity to add some tonal variation to the shoe. Although some have only one hue across the entire sole, designs like the Sand Drift include two colours to give an appealing colour-blocking effect. Finally, the groove around the top of the midsole is free from any stitching, thus completing the understated look that defines this streamlined model.
